How to wear a pocket watch correctly

Pocket watch refers to a clock that has no strap and is carried around. The traditional pocket watch is a pointer type, with a watch chain tied in the pocket of the clothes, and taken out when using it. The pocket watch can also be fixed to the collar, belt, etc., or not tied to the bracelet.

The early portable clocks were relatively large and belonged to pocket watches. Its earliest documentary record was found in 1462. A letter from Italian watchmaker Bartholomew Manfredi mentioned the "bearing bell". At the end of the 15th century, clockwork-driven clocks promoted the production of small pocket watches. By 1510, Peter Henlein, a watchmaker from Nuremberg, Germany, had made many pocket watches. Since then, pocket watches have gradually become popular in Europe and have become common supplies and decorations for upper class people. The most famous country for making pocket watches is Switzerland.

At the end of the 19th century, watchmakers began to produce watches with a smaller appearance. Early watches were mainly popular among women. During the First World War, officers and soldiers on the battlefield found that watches were more convenient to use than pocket watches. Since then, watches have gradually become common among men, gradually replacing the status of pocket watches.

In modern times, some men choose to wear pocket watches for reasons of nostalgia or decoration; however, with the popularization of mobile phones, many people use mobile phones as a tool to display time. Today's pocket watches are mostly used for fashion or boutique purposes.

Pocket watches are divided into two categories because of their shapes. For the hunting type, a transparent or opaque shell is added to the outside of the cover. The open type does not add a shell cover. There is also a semi-hunting type with a partial cover.

When the pocket watch is placed in the trouser pocket, a longer bracelet is generally used, while the bracelet on the breast pocket is shorter. Some bracelets have clips at the top to fix them on the collar of a suit jacket or shirt.

There are basically two pocket watch chains, single albert and double albert.

Single albert means that there is only one chain, and the two ends are the pocket watch and the fixture. And double albert has two chains, both chains are connected to the fixed object, and one chain is connected to the pocket watch, and the other is connected to the ornament.

In 1830, there were regular passenger railway trains, and since then they have become popular all over the world. Railway transportation requires an accurate timing system, because operations such as switching and shunting can easily cause accidents if they are not carried out at the correct time. Railway companies often equip their employees with pocket watches.

For example, in 1920, the Ping-Han Railway customized a white copper "Ping-Han Railway Memorial Pocket Watch" from the Swiss Tissot Watch Factory, with a white dial with 12 o'clock in the inner ring and 24 o'clock in the outer ring. The watch body has an anti-magnetic design.

In 1886, after improving the gear mechanism and escapement, the Swiss designed a cheap pocket watch. In this way, many people can buy pocket watches, and pocket watches have entered the families of ordinary people. Switzerland also mastered this advanced watchmaking technology, and became the center of the world watchmaking industry for more than a century. By 1887, ladies who love beauty and pursue fashion have already begun to wear watches. The watch strap replaces the watch chain of the pocket watch and plays a fixed role. With the advent of the 20th century, with the rapid development of productivity, people began to pursue a more casual style different from the past in clothing. At the same time as the style of clothing changes, pocket watches that can only be worn in orthodox suits cannot meet the demand. People need a watch that is casual to wear and not so particular about style. Driven by this "popular wind", watches quickly occupied the market. Before the founding of the People's Republic of China, men wore long gowns and jackets. Fashionably, they hung a gold pocket watch in the left small pocket, and the bracelet was attached to the button. Wearing a pocket watch, holding it carefully on some occasions, with a "pop" sound, the cover opened, revealing the white dial and black hands, the whole look was an arrogant gentleman. Nowadays, pocket watches are rarely sold on the market. Except for pocket watches launched by famous brand manufacturers, pocket watches are used as gifts, souvenirs, and collectibles.

Generally, ladies' watches are hung on the chest, with a diameter of about 3cm. Pocket watches are also called pocket watches. In the past, gentlemen in Europe used to put them in the pockets of suits and vests, and the bracelet was attached to the second or third buttonhole.
